I was a big fan of the original Viewty (hey, it was the phone that nearly tempted me away from Sony Ericsson), and when they finally announced the sequel, the LG Viewty Smart, it’s fair to say I was a bit excited.
Well now, thanks to GSMArena, we have a full preview of the LG Viewty Smart in all its loveliness!
And I do mean loveliness, because it looks chuffin’ gorgeous. As I’ve mentioned before, it’s running the same S-Class UI as the LG Arena, and that makes it simple, intuitive, and above all, fun to use.
However, the LG Viewty Smart’s got some crucial differences to the LG Arena. And of course, the biggest difference is the camera, as it runs at 8 megapixels. That means better photos, but it’s got a downside, as well. It means the camera module’s bigger, so they’ve had to dump the 3.5mm headphone jack and the FM transmitter that you got in the Arena.
However, I’ve got to say I like the look of the LG Viewty Smart more than the Arena. Both of ‘em have got nice big touchscreens, both have metal casings, but I reckon the Viewty Smart’s design hangs together better. The metal casing meshes better with glossy front than it does on the Arena… oh, and not to mention that it’s got a capacitive, AMOLED touchscreen which looks the canine’s conkers…
Now, the bit I don’t like: despite the name, the LG Viewty Smart is, in a very definite way, not a smartphone, same as the original Viewty wasn’t. Yes, it’s touchscreen, but it’s a touchscreen feature phone, and since that’s the reason I didn’t get the original Viewty, that’s the only bit I don’t like about the Viewty Smart.
Because if it had been a smartphone, ye gods, I’d have bought the LG Viewty Smart in a heartbeat!
